Somali police and African Union Mission in Somalia troops have started performing night patrols in Mogadishu, Somalia's al-Shahid Network reported Wednesday (January 2nd).
The patrols aim to provide general security and will continue until security in Mogadishu is safe, said General Abdullahi Hassan Barise, head of criminal investigations at the Somali Police Force.
The new night patrols follow Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon's announcement on December 29th that the Somali government has trained 1,000 troops to secure and prevent the return of illegal roadblocks in Mogadishu.
