Gambia: Essau Nawettan League Final Set for Sunday

The final of this year's edition of the Essau Youth and Sports Development Committee's Nawettan League between Late Ebrima Marong and Berending United will take placeSunday at the community's playing ground.

The Essau Youth and Sports Committee through its secretary general, Moris Demba, said that they are informing the general public that the final match that will bring the present football season to an end will be played in the North Bank Region village of Essau on the 20th of January.

Sixteen teams participated in this year's edition and were divided into four groups of four teams each with the two best ranked sides qualifying to the quarterfinal stages. Now the championship has reached its climax and the two sides will battle it out for the D10,000 prize money with the runners-up taking home D7,000 as a consolation prize.

Moris further told Observer Sports that several dignitaries will also be present in the game. Among them will be the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Alieu Kebba Jammeh; deputy chief of Defence Staff, Major General Saikou Seckan; secretary general and minister for Presidential Affairs, Dr. Njogu Bah; and the governor of North Banjul Region amongst others.
