South Africa: Minister Distances Herself From Fake Twitter Account

press release

Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga wishes to distance herself from a Twitter account purporting to be her own.

A fake Twitter account in the name of the Minister Angie Motshekga was created recently. Bogus news items, such as comments, were posted on the fake account; giving the mistaken impression that the Minister was using that platform to engage with South Africans.

Minister Motshekga does not have a personal Twitter account and she communicates through the official Department of Basic Education (DBE) Twitter account whose handle is @DBE_SA.

"We warn the public and those using social media to ignore the account as it does not represent the department, the Minister or government. The creator/s of this account are disrespectful and seek only to tarnish the good name of the Minister, that we will not allow," DBE Spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi said.
