Zambia: Chipolopolo Wins Kudos From MTN

MTN Zambia has expressed optimism about Zambia's chances at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations set for January 19th in South Africa.

Chief marketing officer Philip Besiimire said in a statement yesterday that the national soccer team remains the favourite to retain the continental title as it has gained experience over time.

"The profile of the Chipolopolo has risen since they lifted the AFCON trophy last year against all odds. We believe the technical bench as well as the lads are aware that they are the team the world is looking at and if they can repeat last year's feat.

As national team sponsors, we have been closely following the preparations ahead of the tournament and we are confident that come January 21st they will take on their opposition with focused determination", Besiimire said.

He also added that MTN Zambia draws its confidence from the fact that the team has remained intact with a blend of new faces from the local league that will ensure continuity for the national team.

"We are positive about the outlook of the national team and its technical bench. It is a growing team as we have seen the integration of some local talent from the MTN FAZ Premier League.

This is inspiring and as the sponsors of the local premier league, we are proud to be associated with this success", he said.

Besiimire further pledged his company's continued support to Zambian football as a way of appreciating the customers for the continued support.

He said MTN Zambia is committed to development of football in the country as it has the potential to contribute to the development of the country's social and economic landscape.

Meanwhile, MTN Zambia has congratulated the national soccer team for being voted CAF African national team of the year and world's second best national team for the year 2012 after Spain.

Besiimire said the two accolades bestowed on the team should spur them into retaining the AFCON trophy. MTN Zambia is the official sponsor of the Zambia national soccer team since 2010.
