A major conference aimed at brightening the minds of youth in the South-Eastern Liberia to meaningfully contribute to national development is expected to take place in the region soon. The conference is to be led by Grand Gedeh County District #2 Representative Zoe Emmanuel Pennue and Liberia's Peace Ambassador, George Manneh Weah, both of whom, are from the region.
The Assistant Secretary of the United Grand Gedeh Development Association in Maryland County (UGUDA), Mr. Richard Chayee, made the disclosure recently in Harper, Maryland County when he spoke to The Heritage. Mr. Chayee, who served as proxy to Rep. Pennue when authorities of Maryland County honored him (Rep. Pennue), said the conference is also geared towards uniting the youth of the South-Eastern Region.
Counties of the South-Eastern Region include: Maryland, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, River Gee and Sinoe. Among other things, he added that the people of the region are one, and so it was necessary to bring them together under one palava hut to discuss issues of national concern in order to strategize a way forward for national development and prosperity.
Also speaking at the honoring program, the Acting Superintendent of Maryland County, Mr. Daniel Williams, said the county decided to honor the Grand Gedeh County lawmaker because his operations go beyond the borders of his county (Grand Gedeh).
"He has identified with us in everything that we do, and so we deem it necessary to give him his flowers while he is still alive," said the acting Maryland County superintendent. Also in a brief chat with this paper at the Martha Tubman Memorial Stadium in Harper, Maryland County, Rep. Pennue confirmed the holding of the youth conference.
According to him, the conference will set a pace for youth development in the region. He added that development is assured when the people are of like minds.
