Nigeria: Tambuwal Seeks Ties With European MPs

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called for a closer working relationship between Nigerian parliamentarians and their counterparts in the European Union.

Speaking when he gave audience to members of the Association of European Parliamentarians with Africa (AWEPA) in Abuja yesterday, Tambuwal asked the visitors to help Nigerian lawmakers in the areas of budget tracking, training for members of national and state assemblies and other areas to deepen democratic ethos.

Tambuwal said the House of Representatives and the European parliament could share their experiences and challenges for the benefit of the two entities.

He assured that the House of Representatives would play active role in the promotion of the aims and objectives of AWEPA.

Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Professor Tadeusz Iwiriski, said they were in Nigeria to explore ways of enhancing cooperation between AWEPO and the National Assembly.

The visit was organized by the Nigerian National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS).
