Garowe — The vice president of Somalia's Puntland government has laid the foundation rock of a new building to house Puntland Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports, Garowe Online reports.
Puntland Vice President Gen. Abdisamad Ali Shire was accompanied by Cabinet officials including Aviation Minister Hussein Hassan Abdi and Deputy Minister Abdigani Ghelle when he laid the foundation rock at the new building site in the new government district in Garowe, the Puntland capital.
"Puntland did not have many government buildings left behind by Somalia 's previous central governments and the Puntland Government continues to build new facilities to house Puntland ministries and agencies to conduct vital government services, " said Vice President Shire.
The area where the new Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports building is located in Garowe is also home to new government buildings, including the new Puntland State House, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Environment, and Puntland Prisons Headquarters.
Puntland, located in northeastern Somalia, was established as a state government within federal Somalia and has it s own constitution and laws.Somalia's former central governments, which reigned between 1960 and 1991, largely neglected endowing Puntland with government centers and economic infrastructure.
