Namibia: Caught in the Act

City Police superintendent Helena Mootseng counting the money that was confiscated from an alleged fraudster at Natis Valley in the Northern Industrial Area of Windhoek.

Mootseng said they are clamping down on criminal syndicates pretending to assist customers at Natis, but who then disappear with the money. It is against this background that the City Police decided to act with a sting operation to root out the criminals. "One of our officers, dressed in civilian clothes, pretended to register a vehicle and was approached by a suspect who wanted to assist him. He ... told him that he has connections inside and therefore he would be helped quickly. The suspect was then arrested inside the hall and a charge of fraud, alternatively theft with false pretences, will be laid against him," Mootseng said. N$3 500 was confiscated from the three suspects arrested on Monday, Wednesday and yesterday.
