South Africa: A Call for All to Rally Behind the National Team

press release

On the 19 January 2013 (Saturday), at 18h00, our national team will be battling it out against Cape Verde in Johannesburg at the National Stadium, better known as Soccer City.

This will be the opening game of the 2013 Orange African Cup of Nations, which will be staged here on our shores until the 10 February 13.

South Africa is playing host to the continent for the second time since the dawn of democracy in 1994. We are looking forward to a successful and exciting tournament. We are also confident that our people will not disappoint in supporting Bafana Bafana, our national team, just as we did with the class of 96, that won the cup against Tunisia.

The people of our country made us very proud when they rallied behind our team in 2010 when we were hosting the world's soccer spectacular, the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

We are make a clarion call to all our people, black and white, rich and poor, to take out their Vuvuzela's, wear your Bafana T-shirts, prepare their braai stands for Saturday afternoon, and to find a spot in front of their TV sets or at the fan parks, to witness the rise of Bafana Bafana as they trample over Cape Verde.

They need our support, whether you are at the stadium or at home!

We call on all soccer loving people to go out in their numbers to buy tickets for the games, and not only for the games that Bafana Bafana will be playing. Let's fill the stadiums and enjoy the games with family and friends.

We declare tomorrow ( Friday), official Football Friday, by putting on our Bafana jerseys as we go to work, shopping and hang out, to show support to our boys.

The Northern Cape Provincial Government declares its unwavering support to the National Team, Bafana Bafana.

Acting Premier Cjikela and her entire Cabinet will be cheering for none other than Bafana Bafana. Cabinet extends its best wishes to the national team, we are confident they will make us proud, she says.

Viva Bafana Bafana viva!!!!
