Nigeria: Catholic Church Empowers 67 Widows

Owerri — St. Anne-Joachim organization of Catholic Family Outreach International in the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese Imo State has issued interest loan amounting N600, 000 (six hundred thousand naira) to 67 widows and widowers.

Some of the widows and widowers received between N20,000 and N50, 000 each, while others got N100,000 and N150, 000 respectively to empower them start any business of their choice to make a living. Speaking at the 2012 harvest marking the widow and widower's day, the spiritual director of St Patrick's Catholic Parish Obolubi Owerri, Imo state, Rev. Emmanuel enjoined both government and corporate bodies to assist the needy in the society.

In her speech, the co-ordinator Lady Emmanuel Chukwuezi advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money.

While urging them to be prayerful, Chukwueze enjoins them to engage in the type of business that their money can afford so as to manage it well.
