Ghana: Boakye Hopes to Be Fit for Stars' Opener

Ghana striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom hopes to regain full fitness before Sunday's opener against DR Congo at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The teenager twisted his ankle in training on Tuesday at their base in Abu Dhabi and had to limp off. He is being monitored by the Black Stars medical team who expects the 19-year-old to train on Thursday.

Boakye was impressive for the team during their pre-tournament tour where he scored in the 3-0 win against Egypt.

He is confident of winning the recovery battle. "It hurts but I'm told it is nothing serious and I expect to be ready for the DR Congo match," the Sassuolo striker said.

"The medical team checked on me and it is nothing serious so we have to look at the coming days and see what will happen. I'm confident. " Boakye will be making his Africa Cup of Nations debut.
