Somalia: British Ambassador Condemns Murder of Shabelle Journalist

Mogadishu — The British Ambassador to Somalia, Matt Baugh, has condemned the killing of journalist Abdi Hared Osman of Shabelle Media Network. He said:

"On behalf of the British Government, I send my deepest condolence to the family of Abdi Hared Osman. I urge the Somali authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice; it is important to end impunity for the murder of journalists. Their work is crucial to the future of Somalia and they should be able to operate without fear for their lives. I pay tribute to their bravery and professionalism".

The journalist was killed this morning by gunmen in Mogadishu's Wadajir district. His death is the first of a journalist in this year following events in 2012 that saw the killing of 18 media workers in Somalia.
