Zambia: UPND Adopts Chilufya for Mpongwe

The UPND has adopted former president Rupiah Banda's senior private secretaries, Rabson Chilufya, to contest the Mpongwe seat in the February 28 by-election.

Chilufya beat Gabriel Namulambe in the MMD primaries for the Mpongwe seat in the 2011 election but a compromise was reached to allow the latter as a senior member of the then ruling party contest the post.

Chilufya later defected to the PF but was not adopted. He recently defected to the UPND who have given him his wish to contest the Mpongwe seat.

UPND national secretary Winstone Chibwe has announced that Chilufya will contest the Mpongwe seat.

MMD has already adopted former district commissioner Miniver Mutesa while Namulambe is an automatic candidate for the PF and has been campaigning in the area.
