Sudan: Abu Tira, Pro-Government Militia Raid City, Rape Three in Central Darfur

Tur — Central Reserve Forces (known as Abu Tira) and pro-government militiamen raided the market of Tur city in Zalingei locality, Central Darfur on Friday morning, witnesses told Radio Dabanga.

During the raid, the alleged perpetrators beat and looted local residents who sought refuge in their homes and in Tur's army garrison.

According to sources, the battalion commander protected the civilians but did not interfere in the raid.

The day before, the same group had raped three girls also in Tur.

One of the victims is 18 years old and the other, a handicapped girl, is 16, eyewitnesses told Radio Dabanga.

Following the attacks, sources claimed that the alleged perpetrators sealed off all roads leading to Nertiti and neighboring villages.

Tur citizens said their town is currently in "a state of chaos and its residents are panicked".
