Tanzania: Dar EPA Suspect 'Commits' Suicide

JAI SOMANI (50), an accused person in the ongoing Bank of Tanzania (BoT) External Payment Arrears (EPA) ongoing case has allegedly committed suicide.

According Mr Parag Somani, a brother of the deceased, Jai Somani allegedly shot himself dead yesterday in the morning. He also disclosed that the deceased was suffering from depression.

"Burial arrangements are underway at the deceased's residence along Mindu Street in Upanga, Kinondoni Municipality," he said. The deceased and another brother, Ajay Somani, were both charged in the EPA case at Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court.

However, his brother Ajay has already been sentenced and is serving a two years jail term. The two brothers and other four people were charged with stealing over 5bn/- from the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) through the EPA scheme.
