Kenya: Amina Launches Bid to Be WTO Director-General

It was Ambassador Amina Mohamed's moment at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi last Tuesday evening as she launched her bid for the position of director general of the World Trade Organisation.

The lawyer who has served in the Ministry of Foreign affairs for over 20 years was nominated by the Government of Kenya with the support of other countries.

"I'm basing my bid for the position of WTO director general on the platform of open competition, rational debate, fairness and a fair hearing for all candidates," she said.

She received praise from the speakers including the minister for Foreign Affairs, Prof Sam Ongeri who said that Amina is an accomplished diplomat with impressive credentials and wide ranging experience.

In attendance were Trade Minister Moses Wetangula, Foreign Affairs PS Thuita Mwangi, Former DPP Philip Murgor, Amb SK Maina and envoys.
