Kenya: DP Aspirant Walks Out On Party

DP vice chairman Rishad Amana has told off one of its aspirants for defecting to TNA at the last minute.

Amana said they spent a lot resources on Mohamed Hisham who was eying the Lamu East parliamentary seat.

"But he decamped to TNA without the decency of informing us. We found out when his friends called to inform us," he added on the phone yesterday.

Amana, however, said the move will not affect the party in Lamu county where they have put up a strong line-up.

DP has candidates in most of the elective positions except the governor and three other positions.

Most were elected unopposed.

The chairman of the Mpeketoni Leaders Forum, Ng'anga Kithuka, secured the party's ticket to run for senator while Amana will vie for Lamu West parliamentary.

Anastasia Mwangi is the party's women's representative aspirant, her only challenger Priscillah Daido dropped off.

It is believed she is planning a move to another party.

DP aspirants include Simon Ndoro (Witu), Khamis Mbarouk alias Ubwete (Baharini), Johnson Dokolani (Mkunumbi), Hafidh Abubakar (Lamu Island/Mkomani), Swabir Mohamed (Faza) and Mohamed Dilo (Basuba).

"We will let the people decide who they want to choose to be their governor and president," said Amana.
