Kenya: IEBC Says Parties Not for Poll

THE Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has warned that political parties may not deliver free and fair nominations exercise due to low levels of preparedness.

The commission gave the warning after meeting officials from all political parties in Kakamega . "They have not submitted updated registers, not named their polling stations or publicised lists of returning officers," said George Oyugi, the IEBC co-ordinator for lower western.

Oyugi said most parties had reduced designated polling stations in the region and only a few people took part in the exercise. He said only the Orange Democratic Movement had 'a semblance' of requirements for the exercise."I doubt that those who will be declared winners will have been elected by a popular vote as a democratic requirement," he said.
