Kenya: Kabete Aspirants in War of Words

A TNA parliamentary aspirants said yesterday he found his rival meeting with the party's presiding officers in Kikuyu.

George Muchai said at around 8pm he learnt there was a meeting held at a hotel in Kikuyu town involving Lewis Nguyai and TNA presiding officers.

"I was tipped off that hon (Lewis) Nguyai together with his agents were locked in a meeting with all TNA presiding officers who had earlier on undergone training at Thirime," Muchai said.

Muchai, who is Cotu deputy secretary general, said he drove to the restaurant at around 8;15pm where he found them in a meeting. He said he called the TNA headquarters where the party deputy secretary general advised him to take photos as evidence.

"I immediately I called CID officer in Kikuyu police station requesting for intervention. I then called TNA secretary general but he did not pick," said Muchai said.

Muchai said he took photos with his phone before Nguyai's agents allegedly started roughing him up. The aspirant said the agents stole Sh10,000 and tried to snatch his gun.

"Nguyai's agents roughed up my assistant who we were in company with throwing him out before roughing me up as they were reaching for my firearm and i laid on the ground with it where they managed to steal

Sh100,000 from my pocket after which police came in and rescued me after they were alerted by friends i had come with,"he said. Muchai made a formal complaint to the party headquarters and later reported the matter to kikuyu police station after which he went to Wangige health clinic where he was treated with minor injuries and given medicine.

Nguyai refuted the claims saying that Muchai stormed his meeting where he had met his agents to assign them work during the nominations.

Lari OCPD Joshua Opiyo confirmed that the incident did happen and investigations are being conducted to ascertain who started the scuffle and arrests will be made.

Muchai however wants Nguyai be disqualified from participating in the party nominations and substitute all presiding officers as they have been compromised. Sources in the party headquarters said that they received the complaint and all presiding officers in Kabete constituency substituted.
