Kenya: Zonga Loses to Newcomer

Outgoing Msambweni MP Omar Zonga is among the losers in the Kwale ODM nominations after he was edged out in the party primaries yesterday.

Zonga who had moved to contest the parliamentary seat in the newly formed Lunga-Lunga constituency was defeated by youthful and first timer Hassan Hamisi Renge (Bonzo).

The former Msambweni National Youth Council chairman garnered 2,525 votes against Zonga's 873.

"I was well-prepared. I am happy the Lunga-Lunga people are keen on getting good leaders. I am now looking forward to the general elections where I am confident I will win," said Renge.

Zonga is said to have schemed for the new constituency to evade competition in Msambweni which is believed to be highly competitive.

Salim Mvurya beat Michael Nyanje to be the party's governor flagbearer.
