Kenya: Kajembe's Son, in-Law in Scuffle

CHAOS erupted at Mikindani primary school yesterday as two members of Changamwe MP Ramadhan Kajembe's family battled for the ODM ticket to vie for the Jomvu parliamentary seat.

Alleged supporters of Kajembe's son, Seif, barred his brother-in-law and political rival Badi Twalib from accessing the polling centre. The two groups clashed for about 20 minutes as each chanted songs praising their preferred candidate.

It took the intervention of Changamwe police boss Otieno Awuor to calm them. Twalib, who is the outgoing Jomvu councillor, is married to the Kajembe's daughter.

Seif said Twalib's supporters are to blame but absolved his in-law. "The problem is not the candidate. It is his supporters. They do not know how nominations are done," said Seif outside the school.
