Kenya: Joint Nominations a Sham, Says Balala

Republican Congress Party of Kenya leader Najib Balala has dismissed the recent party nominations by Cord, Jubilee and other parties as a sham.

Speaking to the Star on phone, Balala said party nominations should have been party affairs but were reduced to anyone's business so long as one had a national identity card.

"Those were not party nominations. They were simply party corruption. They should be disqualified," said the immediate former Mvita MP.

He said the use of identity cards alone by some parties opened gates for corruption and rigging thus making the whole process flawed.

He said the parties have now exposed themselves to legal battles as anyone can move to court to challenge the legality of the process.

He said as per the IEBC, registered party members are fewer than the number of people who participated in the nominations.
