Egypt: Morsy Nominates Ex-VP Mahmoud Mekki As Ambassador to Vatican

President Morsy issued Thursday 17/01/2013 a decree to nominate former vice president Mahmoud Mekki as Egypt's ambassador to Vatican.

The Foreign Ministry will send Mekki's letters of credence to the Vatican in the next few days, Assistant Foreign Minister Ahmed Bedewi said.

The diplomatic post has been vacant since the expiry of the tour of duty of Egypt's ambassador to the Holy See Lamiaa Mekheimar on August 31, 2012.

Mekki has recently resigned because Egypt's newly-endorsed constitution has not made any mention of the post of vice president.
