Sudan: Girls School in El Fasher Hit By 'Mysterious Disease'

El Fasher — Reports from Alhomeira Basic School for Girls in Alma'had district of El Fasher stated that more than 80 pupils are suffering from a 'mysterious disease' causing severe headaches along with abdominal pain, vomiting and fainting.

The medical director of the emergency unit at El Fasher hospital, Dr. Mojtaba Tigani, explained to Radio Dabanga on Thursday, 17 January, that the disease was not caused by poisoning and stated that the situation of the girls has stabilized in the meantime.

A source from the emergency unit disclosed that the cases were treated with intravenous liquids and painkillers at El Fasher hospital and added that the pupils' relatives gathered at the emergency unit in fear and deep concern about the girls' lives.
