Tunisia: Social-Economic Problems in Thala Delegation Looked At

Tunis — A working session was held, on Friday, gathering the Prime Ministers' advisors and a delegation of the civil society in Thala, in the Governorate of Kasserine.

The meeting was an occasion to discuss the social-economic problems facing the Thala inhabitants and the reasons that pushed some youth and unemployed people to stage sit-ins and go on hunger strikes, a communiqué of the Prime Ministry reads.

During this working session, the delegation members expressed regret at the suspension of several development projects in the region which, they estimated, "would have helped meet the inhabitants' expectancies."

A government delegation is expected to pay a visit within the next 10 days, to the Kasserine Governorate, to take stock of the situation in the region and draw inspiration from the civil society components' proposals, and working sessions will be held with regional authorities to look at means to relaunch the development projects on hold.
