Kenya: Calm Returns to Kibera After Overnight Chaos

Calm has returned to Kibera slums this morning after last night's clashes pitting two camps that left several people with injuries.

GSU personnel patrolled the area beating up locals who were found rioting before calm returned. Among those injured were two Nation journalists who were assaulted by the GSU personnel.

The violence broke out after one of those seeking to be MP in the area lost in the nominations prompting his supporters to attack other locals.

This also prompted a huge reaction from those attacked leading to counter attacks before police arrived there. The running battles ran into the night before more police were sent there to calm the situation.
