Gambia: Real Open Title Defence With Hawks Scalp

The Gambian premier league football season got underway at the weekend with champions Real de Banjul opening the defence of their title with a laboured 1-0 defeat of Hawksat the KG-5 Mini-Stadium in Banjul on Saturday.

The league champions who are preparing to campaign in the African Champions League this year featured new boys from Brikama United Adama Sabally and Modou Jallow alias Figo while former U- 17 starlet Yusupha Njie made his league debut. Real de Banjul's star midfielder, Bubacarr Trawally, scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute.

Real got a chance to double the lead during the second half when theirnewly acquired centre forward from Gambia Armed Forces, Alhagie Bambo Fofana, was put through with a superb through ball from Bubacarr Trawally that managed to beat the guard of the Hawks defence, only for him to shot over the bar.
