Lrr — The Regional Disaster Management Committee (RDMC) in the Lower River Region (LRR) on Thursday distributed food items to over 65 families affected by last year's crop failure in Kiang Sankandi and its surrounding villages. The items which included bags of rice, gallons of oil, bags of coos among others, were handed over to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held in Mansakonko.
In his remarks, Abou Njie, the deputy governor of LRR, thanked the government of The Gambia through the National Disaster Management Agency for providing relief assistance to disaster victims in his region. The assistance, he said, will go a long way to helping these families in his region. He advised the community to desist from building houses on waterways and to avoid settling in disaster-prone areas.
Lamin Saidy, the coordinator of the Regional Disaster Management Committee in LRR, highlighted the significance of the distribution, noting that it is part of series of ongoing relief item distributions in LRR. The move he said is not the first, whilst urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the food items.
