Gambia: Woman Arraigned for Assaulting Police Officers

One Awa Barry was recently arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court charged with two-count of assaulting a police officer and willful damage to property.

According to the charge sheet on count one, on 13 January 2013, at Serrekunda West Police Post, in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused, Awa Barry, assaulted two police officers, by the name Mariama Sowe and Fatou Jarju, in due execution of their duties.

Count two read that she damaged the station table of the said station.

She denied the charge and was granted court bail of D30,000 with a Gambian surety who must deposit an ID card.
