Uganda: Kananura Sent to Luzira Over Murder

City businessman Desh Kananura has been charged with murder of his former employee by a Kampala Court.

Kananura on Monday appeared before City Hall Grade I Magistrate Juliet Hatang who remanded him to Luzira Prison until February 12.

He denied any involvement in the murder of his employee, Badru Kateregga, at his Panamera Bar and Restaurant in Naguru.

Kananura, who is the prime suspect in the case together with three others, is alleged to have tortured Kateregga to death over a sh30,000 tip he got from customers last October.

Other suspects are Cyrus Maganda, Samuel Muzulewa and Jacob Onyango.

The three were charged with murder and granted court bail.

Kananura is alleged to have fled to Dubai following the incident to elude arrest, a claim he denies.

"I never eluded Police arrest as they claim. I travelled to Kenya, Dubai and UK on my normal business trips. I was surprised when the Police arrested me at the airport on my return, linking me to the murder," he said.

He said Kateregga was beaten by fellow colleagues at work.

"I just realised when his fellow workers pounced on Kateregga and started beating him before I called in the Police to come to his rescue," he added.
