Ethiopia: Uganda Rotates Some of Its Amisom Troops

During the last week, Uganda has been rotating the troops assigned to AMISOM.

uring the last week the 1,700 soldiers of Uganda Battle Group 11, commanded by Col. Joseph Balikudembe, have been deploying Mogadisu. They began to asrrive on Tuesday last week (January 15th) to replace Uganda Battle Group 9. UGABAG 9, commanded by Lt. Col. Frederick Akiiki Rugadya, was deployed in Somalia in December 2011, and had been in the forefront of fighting Al-Shabaab, especially in the areas of Afgoye and Marka.

According to Ugandan spokesperson, Major Henry Obbo, Battle Group 9 had been remarkably successful during their one-year stay in Somalia, helping to capture Maslah, Arbisca, Lantabur, KM50 and Marka. The deployment of Battle Group 11 marks the 11th rotation of Ugandan Peoples Defence Forces in Somalia.
