Rwanda: Women Team Keen to Retain Zone V Title

The national women's basketball team is keen to retain the Fiba Zone V Championship title, according to head coach Charles Mbazumutima. The tournament got underway on Monday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In an interview coach Mbazumutima told Times Sport that he will go in the tournament with the intention of retaining the title they won two years ago in Kigali.

"Our target is to win all our matches and I am confident the girls can do it, the players have got a winning mentality. They have been doing well in training and friendly matches so I'm confident we will retain the title," he said.

The two pros linked up with the team are Henderson Tiena Monay (Angola) and Letitia Mahoro, who plays in the US. The two others who had been summoned but later dropped out, include Williams Angelica Monique (US), and Sabine Mugeni (France).

The one-week tournament has attracted six women teams from Burundi, Egypt Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and hosts Tanzania, who will play each other on a round-robin basis.
