Kenya: ODM Oks Wanjiru for Nairobi Senator Race

Former Starehe member of Parliament Margaret Wanjiru has today received a lifeline from ODM after the party gave her a direct nomination for the Nairobi senate race.

Wanjiru who had initially expressed interest in the gubernatorial race, will now battle for senatorship with TNA's Gideon "Mike Sonko" Mbuvi.

Wanjiru dropped her gubernatorial bid after her academic credentials failed to meet the threshold as stipulated by law for governorship aspirants.

Her doctorate degree of Theology from Vineyard Harvester Bible College and a Bachelors degree in Christian Leadership from United Graduate College and Seminary International, were rejected by the Commission for Higher Education.

Former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro who was the initial Nairobi senatorial candidate will now run for the Ruaraka parliamentary seat after she was given an option by the party to chose a different elective post in the forthcoming March 4 elections.

Political parties were expected to hand in their final list of nominees to elective posts by the end of yesterday after most of them failed to meet the initial January 18 deadline.
