Liberia: More Results On Nat'l County Meet

Montserrado County on Sunday, January 20, 2013 surprised Bong County with a painful 1-0 defeat to advance to the semi finals of the 2013 National County Sports Meet (NCSM). The Match was played at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex (SKD) in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

Montserrado County, who topped Group-I of the 2013 sports festival, proved their worth by dominating greater portion of the match before registering the only goal of the encounter in second half through Charles Musa. Though she was disadvantaged with of one man following the expulsion of Dady Forkpah, the Bongees came back into the match with more vigor to level the score line.

However, the Monrovia boys' defense completed the rest of the work by defending their goal well. Defenders Abraham Sleh and Harrison Mah were on top of the Montserrado County defense doing all they could in order to ensure that their opponent doesn't get an equalizer.

Into the day's final encounter, the dream of former champions Margibi County to enter the quarters was denied by Sinoe County, who defended well to end the game scoreless. The Match was a replay of the two team's last game in the final round of matches due to a protest filed by Sinoe County. Margibi County had won the earlier match by 1-0.

In the protest filed, Sinoe County contended that Margibi County used an illegal player in person of the goalkeeper.

The Sinoeans claimed that the goalkeeper in question is a Nigerian, something which contravenes the rules and regulations of the County Meet. Section 7.1 of the County Meet Rules and Regulations states that no county is allowed to feature a-non-Liberian national.

Following the hearing of the protest, it was established that indeed, Margibi used an illegal player, and so the Ministry of Youth and Sports recommended the replay of game. Margibi went into the match with a must win situation, while a draw was sufficient to take Sinoe through.

In kickball, Margibi County beat Maryland County 11-10 home runs, and Nimba beat Gbarpolu County 12-0 home runs to go through to the semis.
