Angola: The President Receives African Champions Cup

Luanda — The President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, Tuesday, in Luanda, received the 27th edition Cup of the African champion clubs in basketball won by the male team of 1º de Agosto, last December, in Equatorial Guinea.

Before handing the trophy, the team captain, Carlos Almeida, said the gesture expresses recognition of athletes, coaches and officials of the club of Angolan Armed Forces for the abnegated efforts of the president and commander in chief of the FAA towards the development of national sports.

On the occasion, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Gonçalves Muandumba, said the Angolan statesman is worthy of the Cup, for everything he has done for the sports in general and basketball in particular.

The event, held in the Grand Hall of the Presidential Palace, of the Cidade Alta, was also attended by the minister of Education, Mpinda Simao, Chief of Army staff General Geraldo Nunda Sachipengo, club's members, athletes and the governor of Luanda, Bento Bento.
