Kenya: Nairobi Imams Endorse Cord

A group of Imams have urged the Muslim community to support Cord in the March 4 general election. The Imams drawn from all Nairobi under the aegis of the Muslim Leaders Forum met yesterday in Nairobi and endorsed Cord.

"We see hope in CORD because its leadership has shown commitment to fully implement the constitution," said Sheikh Mohammed Warfa, the MLF chairman, during a press briefing at the South C mosque yesterday.

The Imams criticised some leaders in the Jubilee Alliance for opposing the constitution saying they cannot be trusted to implement it.

Warfa, who is also the Imam of Jamia Mosque in Nairobi, asked Kenyans to elect leaders without moral blemish and whose past is not tainted by tribalism. "Kenyans must elect leaders whose past is not questionable because we want to create one nation," he added.
