Kenya: Mystery Over Death of City Hotel Man

Detectives in Kitui are investigating the death of a supplies officer of a hotel in Nairobi hotel. The man booked a room at a hotel in Kitui town and left. He is said to have started vomiting moments after he returned to the room at around 2am.

Witnesses said he was with a woman who works at the Kenya Airways supply chain department. Kitui police chief Lillian Okembo said she could not disclose the name of the man before the next of kin were informed.

"We are expecting the wife today. If he identifies the man, then we will release his name," Okembo said. She said that matter was being handled by the CIDs. The Kitui CID boss Sosthenes Makuri said the woman who was with the man was briefly detained and later released.

"We have released the woman on police bond as the investigation gets under way," said Makuri. He said the man wastaken to Kitui District Hospital after his girlfriend sought assistance from the hotel management.

"It is unfortunate the once the man was taken to hospital he was pronounced dead on arrival. It is not clear what the cause of the death was. However we expect to know once the post-mortem is carried out on the body today," said the CID boss.
