Kenya: Off to Ajaccio

Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech is on the verge of making a swift return to the French top flight league as he was set for a move to the Mediterranean island of Corsica to join Ligue 1 side AC Ajaccio.

Oliech who last season saw his side Auxerre relegated to Ligue 2 has reportedly agreed personal terms and is expected to seal the switch today.

Stars assistant coach James Nandwa revealed his elation at the move for the dependable Kenyan striker stating ti will help him rediscover his goalscoring prowess at both club and international level

"It is a very good move for Dennis. Playing with the best players in the top division can only improve his sharpness which will be crucial for the national team," Nandwa remarked.

"It will also be a positive move for his new club as he will come back with more determination to prove he deserves to be playing amongst the very best," he added

Ajaccio's official website (www.ac-ajaccio.com) confirmed the striker who has spent six years in France first with Nantes and then Auxerre will join them to replace Brazilian Eduardo who is leaving the club at the end of the


Since his move to Auxerre in 2007 Oliech has racked up 165 appearances for the club scoring 25 goals and also led the team to the Uefa champions league in 2010

"Its is a big morale booster for the player. He sacrificed a lot when he moved with Auxerre to the Second Division," explained Nandwa

The Kenyan skipper alongside Inter Milan's McDonald Mariga and Glasgow Celtic Victor Wanyama was included in Nandwa's 24 man squad that will play an international friendly match against Libya on February 6.Ajaccio will be oliech's fourth club since he turned professional in 2003 with the move to Qatar's Al Arabi from Mathare United.

Ajaccio are currently sixteenth in Ligue 1 with 21 points two points above the relegation zone.Oliech who turns 28 next month, joined the French ligue in 2005 penning a deal with FC Nantes from Qatari side Al -Arabi.

At Nantes he made 32 appearances scoring four goals in his three season stint. When Nantes were relegated he joined Auxerre on a loan deal before making the move permanent a year later.

He has been at Auxerre since 2007 emerging as an important player for the club from the Burgundy region of France.He helped the club clinch a top three finish in the French ligue 1 in the 2009-2010 season which saw him become the second Kenyan to play in the Uefa champions league in the 2011-2011 season where they were bundled out in Group "G" that also contained AC Milan, Ajax Amsterdam, Real Madrid.

Auxerre were the taileners in the group with three points gained from a 2-1 victory of the Amsterdam Dutchmen. Group winners were Real Madrid with 16 followed followed by Milan with 8 and Ajaz with seven.

At the end of last season Auxerre were relegated to second tier league. He has made 165 appearances for Auxerre scoring a total of 25 goals. This season he has found the back of the net twice.
