Zimbabwe: FC Platinum for Kariba

Zvishavane — FC Platinum left Zvishavane town yesterday in the early hours for a two week rigorous intensive training in the resort town of Kariba. "We are going to Kariba as I want the new players to gel with the senior players. We want to be one family and I will make sure by the time we finish we will have achieved our goal.

"I will make sure friends will not always be together because I want everyone to be part of FC Platinum so that when we return we will be one family that will fight for positive results.

"We are looking forward that when we come back everyone's blood will be green and if we achieve that we will be in good position to fight for the league title," said Tendai Chikuni who is in charge of the team as Zambian Tenant Chilumba awaits his work permit.

Notable absentees was new signing Aaron Katebe, the Zambian defender who joined from Hwange as a free agent after being offered a more lucrative deal that bettered the US$7 000 carrot that Dynamos had dangled for him.

Katebe was reported to have gone to Zambia to sort out personal issues and was expected to join the team yesterday in Kariba. Donald Ngoma who had expressed his wish to join Dynamos in a deal which failed to materialise was also part of the team that travelled to Kariba.

Platinum who joined the elite league in 2011 has never beaten Dynamos in a league or cup match and this year they believe that they will come up with a formula of achieving that feat.

The team managed to get rid of some of the players replacing them with youngsters whom the technical team believes is full of energy.

It was also the first time this season that FC Platinum did not splash money buying players except for Katebe, goalkeeper Petros Mhari, Mhleli Sibanda who was with Quelaton and the national Under 20 twins, Kelvin and Elvis Moyo who were with Bantu Rovers last year.

Golden Boot winner, Nelson Maziwisa, Raymond Sibanda and Frankson Bushire were recalled from neighbours Shabanie Mine FC where they had been on loan. The new squad also saw the promotion of Terrence Rukweza and goalkeeper Talbert Shumba.FC Platinum offloaded 13 players and only managed to buy four players.
