Liberia: County Meet Semi Finals Kick Off Today

The semi final stage of the ongoing 2013 National County Sports Meet (NCSM) will kick off today, January 23, 2013 at the Samuel Kanyan Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia. In the day's first action, Margibi County will meet Nimba County in Kickball, while Grand Bassa and Grand Cape Mount Counties will play the last kickball match.

In the soccer version of the tournament, Grand Bassa County will take on Montserrado County in the first match. Both Grand Bassa County, who qualified as runner up to Sinoe County in Group-II, qualified to the last four of the competition after beating Grand Kru County by 2-1 in a highly competitive football match at the SKD.

For Montserrado County, she topped Group-I, and went on to proof their worth by beating Bong County by a goal to nil. The last time both counties met was in the quarter finals of the tournament some three years ago. On that day, it was the Bassaians who took the day with a 2-1 victory.

However, with the full support of the Montserrado County Legislative Caucus, the county said it is well prepared to winning every single game of the tournament. But the Bassaians on the other hand, are saying that this year is their time to win the trophy which they last won 24 years ago.

The final match of the day will bring to the fold Grand Cape Mount and Sinoe Counties. Sinoe County, who played a double fixture of matches, seem to be one of the surprised package. The Sinoeans defeated Grand Bassa County in Group-II and went on to get a draw with former champions Margibi to top the group.

In the quarters, Sinoe County also defeated Maryland County by 2-0 to sail through to the semis. For the Cape Mountainians, all eyes are on them after they beat giant Nimba County to go through to the last four. Grand Cape Mount came from behind twice to force Nimba County to extra time, and then the shoot outs, which they eventually won by 6-5.
