NAMIBIA is now represented at the strategic level of the Commonwealth Foundation with the appointment of the executive director of the Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID), Theunis Keulder, to the Civil Society Advisory Committee of the Commonwealth Foundation.
This advisory group consists of 14 persons representing non-governmental Commonwealth organisations and provides guidance to the Commonwealth Foundation on all aspects of its global programmes and long-term strategy. Keulder has been appointed on the basis of his experience in programmes that aim to build civil society capacity to meaningfully engage with government and private institutions, thereby playing its role in democracy-building.
The Commonwealth Foundation is one of the Commonwealth's three intergovernmental agencies alongside the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth of Learning. The foundation's work spans the Commonwealth of Nations, a voluntary association of 54 countries bound together by common values, including respect for diversity, human rights, democracy and good governance.
