Abuja — The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, yesterday said a stable PDP will guarantee a peaceful and stable Nigeria.
Tukur, who disclosed this when Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi, paid him a new year visit at the party's national secretariat, said: "If our party is strong, stable and united, this will ensure a stable and united Nigeria."
The PDP chairman, who commended the commitment of Elechi to the development of agriculture in the state, urged him to work towards a united PDP in his state.
He described food security as a fundamental factor to peace and unity in the country.
On food security in the country, Tukur said: "Food security is fundamental to a peaceful and united Nigeria. It is for this reason that the founding fathers of our great party anchored the prosperity of our dear nation on the full exploitation of our vast agricultural potentials so that we can sufficiently feed our people as well having enough for export."
The PDP chairman, who commended the governor for his agricultural policy, said: "Your vote for massive agricultural development in Ebonyi State is an issue at the heart of the manifesto of our great party, while the gains you have so far recorded are proof to the efficacy of our party's objectives in agriculture. It is also a clear evidence that our party and its manifesto are alive in your state."
According to him, "because agriculture holds the key to food and job security, the PDP led Federal Government has keyed in job opportunities in the agricultural sector as a veritable weapon in tackling the current security challenges in the country."
Earlier in his speech, Elechi had commended Tukur and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for holding high, the core vision of the party, despite the minor disagreements on some national issues.
"We are here to pay our solidarity to you and the NWC for the commendable leadership you give to the Party and through that, to the nation. We came to say a happy new year and keep you abreast of our efforts in service to the people of Ebonyi State," Elechi said.
He further informed the NWC of the agricultural policy of his administration, informing the party of the three new high capacity rice mills his administration has established in the three senatorial zones of the state and restated his determination to fully tap the agricultural endowments that abound in Ebonyi.
"These world class rice mills will no doubt boost our efforts in ensuring a zero-rice importation regime in the country," the governor stated, adding: "PDP rice will soon flood the market."
