Nigeria: Man Docked for Attempted Suicide

Ibadan — The Police on Wednesday arraigned one Adewale Adebayo, 32, before an Ibadan Magistrates' Court for attempted suicide.

The prosecutor, Mr Oluseye Oyebanji, told the court that Adebayo attempted to kill himself by hanging but was rescued by people.

Oyebanji said the incident happened at the Fagbile Jegede area of Ibadan on Jan. 18 at about 7 p.m. and that the offence contravened section 327 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty but explained that he was cursed by his wife.

He said that was why he lost his job which forced him to be frustrated and caused him to decide to kill himself.

The Magistrate, Patricia Adetuyibi, then granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N20,000 with one reliable surety.

Adetuyibi adjourned the case to Feb.14 for hearing. (NAN)
