Nigeria: Workers Ask Jonathan to Sack Health Minister

Lagos — FIVE unions in the health sector under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, yesterday, began a nationwide rally to protest against the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu , threatening strike should President GoodLuck Jonathan refuse to relieve the Minister of his job.

Members of the Unions in Lagos are Nigerian Union of Pharmacists, Medical Technologists and Professionals Allied to Medicine, NUPMTAPM, Medical and Health Workers Union, MHWUN, Non- Academic Staff Union, NASU, Senior Staff Association of Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions, SSATHRAI, National Nurses and Midwives, NANNM.

Speaking,, President of JOHESU, Faniran Olukayode, said the rally was in continuation of the December 13 Abuja rally, stressing the unions would continue to protest until Chukwu was removed as Minister of health.

Olukayode accused the Minister of insensitivity to the plight of health workers.
