Nelspruit — Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee member, Ahmad Muazu Kawu yesterday called for the cancellation of match bonuses for draw as currently being implemented by the Federation.
Kawu, who made the suggestion in a chat with Daily Trust at the Stayeasy Hotel in Nelspruit, said it amounts to a waste of resources and an encouragement to poor performance when players are given money for not wining matches.
The NFF Executive Committee member, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL), he would take the campaign to stop the policy in order for the players to receive only wining bonuses.
"I don't buy the idea of paying players match bonuses for a draw game, bonuses should only be paid for wins", Kawu said.
Reacting to the 1-1 against Burkina Faso last Monday, Kawu said he was worried that the Super Eagles team to the ongoing 2013 Africa Cup of Nations could not play the kind of football that the country is noted for.
He said the NFF has played its part as required by ensuring that the players were adequately prepared for the tournament.
