Gambia: 'I Will Launch an Album Every Year'

After successfully launching two albums in one night last year, being one of its kind in the history of Gambian music, Mighty Joe has revealed to Art and Music that he will be dropping another brand new album this year too. He said the forthcoming album will be called 'I'm From Africa' and it will comprise of some hit collaborations which he recently had with Jali Madi,

Mame Balla and Sura Suso. "I will be launching another album this year which is going to be 'sick and crazy' and I will launch an album every year", he said.

Mighty Joe recorded his first single called 'Mankind' in 2007, which became an instant hot property. Years later, he was signed by a Gambian music label called Music O Records with T-Smallz, Manding Morry and Rougie. After doing a compilation with them, he later decided to terminate the contract and continued working on his own. According to him, he could do better if he stands alone than if being signed.

The versatile artist made these remarks during an interview with this reporter on Saturday night, 19 January 2013, at the Alliance Franco Gambian.

Mighty Joe said he now works with the UK-based Smile Free Records and despite terminating his contract with Music O Records, his relationship with the music label as 'tight and strong' than before.

Mighty Joe reflects on his last launching and said it was a great success.

"It was both a success and one of the biggest launchings in the Gambia. I made it and am happy, two albums in one night, first ever in Gambia so I am proud of myself. I'm having other events on the 8 and 9 March. That is the 'Thank You Tour to all my fans' ", he disclosed.

He further noted that the shows are going to be at Alliance Franco and Brikama Get 7 respectively. The launch album will be discounted at 50% which means it will be sold at D50 on those two days. He urged the fans to come out and see what they have never seen in him, assuring that the event will be fully backed by a live band.

Mighty Joe, whose manager is his own father, finally thanked his fans for supporting him and promised them of more beautiful things to come from him in the future.
