Gambia: Back Stage 2nd Anniversary Celebrated

Back Stage Radio Show on Saturday, 19 January 2013, celebrated its 2nd anniversary in a grand style at the Alliance Franco ampitheatre on Kairaba Avenue.

Back Stage is a weekly radio show that comes on West Coast Radio 1, playing hottest Gambian dancehall vibes.

The show is organised by the presenter ENC and ENC World in collaboration with his crew the Ghette Revelution.

The event brought together top Gambian artists, disc jockeys and fans of our home-made music.

The 3 hour long show was backed by one of the Gambia's biggest Reggae setup, the Holly Family Band, and hosted by ENC and Sister Njie of Wah Sah Xalat, West Coast Radio.

Speaking to this reporter immediately before the start of the show, the man of the night, ENC, said he has been behind the wheels to make sure that event becomes possible. He described the attendance as very good as the fans came out in their numbers to celebrate the anniversary with them.

The show, he said, has been going on the at radio with a great degree of success and that as a result they decided to have a live display of it on stage which they started last year.

ENC said the show is aimed at celebrating Back Stage's success in a stage presentation format.

"Right now the show is not in our hands but in the hands of the people. If they request it, we will give it to them. We are going to do this (the anniversary) every year," he said.

The Gambia's dancehall master thanked the spectators for coming out in their large numbers and describing their response as 'natural'.

While urging fans to keep on supporting him, he finally assured them of great things to come.

Sister Njie, the co-host of the programme, also told Art and Music that the turn was very encouraging if a Gambian is putting up a show of such magnitude on his own. She noted that the anniversary is another celebration of the Gambian pride and congratulates ENC for making it possible as it was he and his entourage who had sponsored the show.

She described ENC as a star and thanked the fans for their support.
