Gambia: GCCI Briefs Press On Forthcoming Trade Fair

The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Tuesday, 22 of January 2013, held a press conference on the preparations for the Gambia's 6th Edition Trade Fair at its 'Kerr Jula' headquarters in Bijilo, West Coast Region.

Addressing the press, Madame Baturu Camara-Ceesay, Senior Trade Economist at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment, said the government through her ministry is supporting the GCCI in organising trade fairs. She said for this year's Trade Fair, her ministry is not only going to support the GCCI but are taking part in full force.

She revealed that her Ministry in collaboration with the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) would be organising a Wood Exhibition to raise the awareness on locally made wood products and in the process create market opportunities for producers to unleash their potentials.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GCCI, Mr. Almamy Fanding Taal said the 6th Edition of Trade Fair Gambia will be held from the 2 - 16 of February 2013 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau and that the theme for this year's Fair is "Expanding business opportunities for enterprises for the creation of private sector Jobs."

He elaborated on the objectives of the Trade Fair which he said are to promote the creation and growth of sustainable green enterprises, to network local enterprises with business opportunities at the international level, to encourage joint ventures, to facilitate Public Private Partnerships, to champion the creation of private sector jobs, to promote the exportation of "Made in The Gambia' products, to increase inter-regional trade and to highlight investment opportunities in The Gambia.
