A nine-member interim management committee charged with the responsibility to steer the affairs of the Brikama Area Council (BAC) before the next local government election, which is slated for April, was inaugurated Monday at the BAC Chambers in Brikama. The appointment of the nine members is in tandem with the Local Government Act.
The chairperson of the committee is the governor of the West Coast Region, Alhagie Lamin Sanneh. Other members are: Alhagie Jammeh, Adama Bojang, Fa Ansu Sanneh, Masaikou Bojang, Kaddy Jatta, Bana Darboe, Omar Touray and Karamo Colley. The inaugural ceremony also coincided with the first briefing session of the members with the senior staff and management of the Council.
In his inaugural address, Governor Sanneh described their mandate as challenging and expressed hope that with the vast experience of the committee members, there will be a smooth steering of the affairs of the Council. He urged the interim team to offer technical advice to the Council on policy matters during its stipulated term, while hoping that the members will leave up to expectation.
While urging the staff and management of the Council to cooperate and support the interim team, Governor Sanneh also reiterated his team's resolve and determination to transform the Council.
On his part, Tamba S.Kinteh, the chief executive officer of the Council, congratulated the members of the interim committee in their appointment. He expressed hope that with the caliber of individuals appointed into the committee, success will be surely achieved. He assured them of the support and cooperation of the staff and management of the Council during the period of their tenure.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Omar Touray thanked President Jammeh through the governor for the trust and confidence bestowed on them. He assured of the committee's commitment to tirelessly work for the progress of the Council. He also implored on the staff of the Council to render adequate and relevant support to his colleagues in the execution of their mandate.
Senior staff of BAC also attended the inauguration.
