Egypt: Al-Azhar Imam Cancels Visit to Arabia On Ticket Issue

Grand Imam of al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayyeb has canceled a visit to Saudi Arabia because his delegation was not allowed to travel first class with him.

Only Tayyeb got a first class ticket while the accompanying top scholars were given economy tickets, a statement by al-Azhar said on Wednesday 23/1/2013.

The delegation was displeased with such "unprecedented" and "unacceptable" attitude, the statement said.

Tayyeb would not travel alone and had to cancel the visit, it noted.

Tayyeb had received an official invitation to visit the kingdom to attend the King Faisal's Islamic sciences prize ceremony.
